To promote the advancement of education by providing free tutoring services and mentorship for New Orleans students of all ages
When schools in New Orleans began to shut down in late March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tulane seniors Lee Sandel, Alison Hurwitz, Emily Persons, Tamara Hammerman, and Anna Wilson, noticed how many of their fellow Tulane students were sitting at home - with lots of time on their hands - looking for a way to give back to the New Orleans community. Our team immediately began to develop a virtual tutoring platform to assist New Orleans students at risk from falling behind academically and developmentally during the transition to online learning while also providing a way for volunteers around the country to help New Orleans students from the comfort of their own homes.
Launched in May of 2020, our goal is to assist New Orleans students of all ages with tutoring and mentorship needs, providing a buddy, friend, and role model remotely. We now serve students of a variety of ages, socioeconomic backgrounds and academic needs across the city and we are excited to continue our expansion and work with more students and tutors in the area.
Moving forward, we hope to serve as a platform where those who love New Orleans can volunteer to make positive impact on New Orleans students, without having to physically be in New Orleans.
Since the creation of this platform, we've had some incredible accomplishments!
Reached over 210 New Orleans students
Over 230 tutors have signed up to participate
72% of our students will return for a second semester of tutoring with their same tutor
8.5/10 average rating from students and tutors
